PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

The Imperial Buffet meeting location was nearly full. We had a total of 39 members (including guests) at the meeting. Timothy Byrne of Stadia (www.stadia.ca) was able to attract an excellent audience. His presentation started with the first attempt of a curtain wall in San Francisco (1918 - by Willis Polk) to the present day skyscrapers - throughout the world.

Tim explained the evolution of the concept, a façade that carries its own dead load, wind and seismic forces that are transferred to the main building structure through supports at the floor or columns of the building. A curtain wall is designed to resist air and water infiltration. Details of the connection and installations were outlined. The maintenance of the anchors, gaskets and sealant is a major part of an ongoing preventative maintenance program. Glazing issues do occur on these systems.

Tim gets right into his presentation!!

Stadia's Technical Support

The conversations after the presentation.

When you are in Tim's audience, you will remember the presentation because he is so knowledgeable and passionate about the topic.

A special thank you to Mr. Dave Bested of J. D. Collins fire protection. David sponsored member's dinners for this presentation.

Stadia also sponsored their invited guests, thereby reducing the cost for this evening.

IFTAC (Inter-provincial Facility Accreditation Council) Members Meeting Friday February 29th. @ Seneca College. (www.iftac.com )

Graduates from the BES (Building Environmental Systems) program and holders of the IFTAC designation were invited to a meeting to review the revised course manuals and receive a study of the past 15 years of graduates from the BES program. William Humber, Chair, Centre for the Built Environment - Seneca College introduced the topics and collected the questionnaires given to the attendees. The new BES course manuals have internet connections to the Seneca WEB site to view information as well as videos on related topics.

A bonus from this meeting was a presentation from Storm Cunningham, the renowned author of "The Restoration Economy". Storm talked about the opportunity to improve our Planet by correcting the environmental issues left after failed industries moved on.

From the Left - Roy Paluoja (Seneca), Danie Mandawe, Jerry Hillier, Peter Choi, Colin Jones
and Storm Cunningham(Author)(www.revitalization.org)

In the fall, a committee will be formed to get the IFTAC off the ground, thereby allowing operators with the IFTAC designation, recognition in other provinces.

Thank You,

Yours Truly,

Colin Jones
President
