PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Spring is in the Air. The winter has come and gone. We can look forward to longer days and milder temperatures.

The February meeting was a field trip to the Enwave Pearl St. Steam plant. Members meet @ 123 Front St. (CITIPLACE) lobby and continued their way a few blocks to 120 Pearl St. back door where our tour was started. The night was Crisp (Temp -20 Deg C) and all the boilers were on High fire. After the introductory speech in the basement of the Plant (the quietest area in the structure), we were split up into three groups and our tour guides were Peter Harasti, Graham Harding and Joyce Lee. This is one of three Steam plants run by Enwave in the downtown core. Each person was given Ear protection due the sound level of the eight boilers.

The groups made their way up the stairs to the catwalk @ top of the plant to view the induction fans and chimneys.

Down to the Combustion Level.

Finally to the Basement where all the water is treated before to is turned into Steam

The Tour was very interesting. So much power concentrated into a single building. We thanked Peter Harasti, Graham Harding and Joyce Lee for taking the time to show us their plant.

May meeting will be elections. More details will be forth coming. This presentation will be geared to the commercial building environment.

See you on April 11th. for an informative presentation from the Ministry of Labour.
Thank You, Yours Truly,

Colin Jones
President
